At 11o’clock this morning the Chairman of West Lindsey District Council Cllr Lawrence and the Mayor of Gainsborough Cllr O’Connor opened the 2022 Gainsborough Festive Lights Festival.
The three-day festival will offer seasonal fun and good cheer for all ages. Gainsborough Town Council, West Lindsey District Council and Marshall’s Yard have been working in partnership on this event for the whole town.
There will be plenty of entertainment, free carriage rides, a free skating rink and free carousel rides for the little ones spread across the town centre. Find out what is available each day on the Marshall’s Yard Website. Food stalls will be offering traditional fayre such as mulled wine and roasted chestnuts as well as less traditional but no less exciting food.
Choirs from local schools and the Salvation Army will entertain you today in the Market Place between 4.00 and 7.00 pm.
There is a free skating rink in the market square; fun for all the family.
The very young will be excited to choose their favourite steed for a free carousel ride in Marshall’s Yard.
I wanted to share my experience of the Christmas lights festival this year. With regret I have to say I found the evening event very disappointing, not just for me and my husband, but more importantly for my children. I cannot express enough how much the gainsborough residents miss the fireworks display and light switch on events. The atmosphere of the count down to the lights being switched on was unforgettable and the amazing fireworks simply made Christmas really begin. It made my whole family so happy to attend and the children so excited. This year, there was nothing much for the children to do, no excitement in the air and we simply had to suffer the crowds, for nothing to look forward to. The past events are sadly missed and I do hope that those days will come back. I remember the marshalls yard car park being full of rides, the titan robot, the singing on stage, along with the spectacular fireworks which EVERYONE loved, and the build up to the amazing light switch on, with everyone counting down. This year the excitement was taken away, stalls selling things that were far too expensive and hardly any shops open. Please please bring back the good old Christmas event of gainsborough marshalls yard.
Dear Claire,
thank you for your comments on the Christmas Lights Festival. I am sorry that you found this year’s event not to your liking. The three-day event offered this year provided a free skating rink, a free carousel, free carriage rides and free musical entertainment as well as free children’s activities.
I note that many of your comments specifically refer to the entertainment provided in Marshalls Yard in previous years. With your permission I would like to share your comments on to the organisers at Marshall’s Yard.
