Let’s Start with a Showcase Garden!
I appreciate everyone works very hard on their gardens, however there is one person who has impressed me over these last few years that I could not allow to go unrecognised. Not only has this gardener transformed (in a blink of an eye) two overgrown, bramble gardens into cultivated classics, he has also volunteered with a fellow gardener to restore an overgrown Orchard and tidy and strim the site boundaries in his own time!
Thank You Vincent

First Aid Awareness Workshop
Open to all tenants across all sites
Paul Hooton, Site Secretary at Foxby Hill, is a trained St Johns Ambulance First Aider and has kindly offered to run a ‘first aid awareness workshop ‘along with St Johns Ambulance trainers, in the new year. The workshop will be geared to any medical eventualities you may be faced with on an allotment site. If you are interested in attending the workshop, please email me at amanda.clarke@gainsborough-tc.gov.uk by 31st January 2025. Once we have numbers for the workshop a venue and date will be set.
Operations Manager
Stephen Coulman, Operations Manager has retired. Gainsborough Town Council have appointed Sean Alcock as the new Operations Manager, Sean joined the team in November.
Site Secretaries
It was agreed by the Property and Services Committee members on the 10th December 2024 to amend the Site Secretaries title to Site Representative. Nominations for your Site Representative will be open in March 2025, further information on this will be shared in the New Year. Where there are more than one nomination an election will take place. The elected Site Representative will remain in post for three years, or sooner if the representative resigns or is not suitable for the role.
Foxby Hill which is a large site, will be slightly different as they have two Representatives currently in situ, Jonny and Paul will be known as Team A, anyone wishing to nominate themselves will need a Representative buddy to form an additional team.
Compost Enhancer
A local pigeon fancier has advised of the benefits of ‘pigeon poo’ as a compost enhancer. When Ron cleans out his pigeon loft, he adds the sawdust, straw and poo to his compost heap.
A Google excerpt received from Mr Jackson, below.
Pigeon droppings have been used as a fertilizer since the Middle Ages, and earlier (they used them in ancient times too) It was like gold as it is one of the best fertilizers containing more nutrients for plants than horse or cow manure.
By composting or processing pigeon droppings, it can be transformed into a valuable organic fertiliser that can improve soil fertility.
Thank you, Ron, I am sure your fellow pigeon fanciers on North Warren will find this information useful. Ron advised when he cleans out his loft if anyone would like any of the sawdust, straw and poo bagging, to ask as he is happy to share!
Lastly from ME…………… I will be breaking up for Christmas on the 20th December returning on 2nd January 2025…………… I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🔔🎄🎅🎁💫
