Armed Forces & Remembrance Sunday October 2018

RESOLVED to accept the apologies received and reasons given.
Members NOTED Councillor Liz Clews had resigned from the Working Group due to struggling to make the times the meetings are called for.
- MINUTES (Paper A)
- Minutes of the meeting of Remembrance Sunday & Armed Forces Day Working Group held Tuesday 17 July 2018
RESOLVED that the minutes of the Remembrance Sunday & Armed Forces Day Working Group meeting held on Tuesday 17 July 2018 be confirmed and signed as a correct record.
Note: Councillor Woolley abstained from voting on the above resolution.
- REVIEW OF REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY ORGAISATIONAL PROCEDURES
Members received an update from Admin Support Officer on arrangements.
War Memorial is due to be cleaned this week.
Frank Charlton asked whether poppies should be placed on the Perspex Tommie’s round the alter in the church.
RESOLVED to not put poppies on the Perspex tommie’s.
The Deputy Clerk advised that Peter Bradshaw had asked to use the silhouette tommie’s in the chapel for the open weekend whilst they are not in use at the War Memorial.
RESOLVED to allow Peter Bradshaw to use the silhouette tommie’s for the General Cemetery chapel whilst not in use at the War Memorial.
Members were advised that there is a possibility a red arrow will fly over the war memorial following the 2 minutes silence.
The Operations Manager advised that road closure arrangements and signage is all in place.
Frank Charlton advised both Army and Air Cadets will be taking part in the parade this year and Members were happy with arrangements of the parade to the War Memorial.
- SUPPORT FOR REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY REFRESHMENTS
Councillor T Davies advised Brenda and Clare from Friends of Richmond Park will make and serve the soup and The Affordable Food Shop will provide the soup.
The Deputy Clerk advised that she would purchase all other refreshments and would welcome Councillor support to serve on the day.
- ARMED FORCES / COMMUNITY DAY 2019
Members considered resolutions from Community Services Committee & Management and Finance Committee following recommendation from the Working Group.
Community Services Committee – RESOLVED to hold a Community / Armed Forces Day event at Marshalls Sports Ground on Saturday 29 June 2019 and request that Council budget £5,000 for the event.
Management and Finance Committee – RESOLVED to support the event but it will need to go the full budget process which will not be agrees until Full Council in January 2019.
Councillor Tom Davies advised that arrangements have already begun, and will be looking at other ways to have military vehicle displays for next year.
