This is an overview of the Stepping Stone Theatre for Mental Health’s grant funded by Gainsborough Town Council. This was in 2024 for the organisation’s Networking Birthday & Mental Health Event. The grant was awarded by the Property & Services Committee on 14th May 2024.
About Stepping Stone Theatre for Mental Health
Stepping Stone Theatre was set up to provide a platform for people to share their experiences of living with mental health challenges and connect with others. For over eight years, the founders Kate and Bill Rodgers have hosted a birthday celebration for Mental Health awareness in and around Gainsborough.
May 2024 Grant Application
The funding application for £350 was requested to help set up the 9th anniversary birthday event. This was to include performances from Stepping Stone Theatre’s first and second booklet “In Our Own Words”.
The money requested in the grant application was to help Stepping Stone Theatre to advertise and market the event further, also going towards purchasing props and gifts for the performance, helpers and volunteers.
Networking Birthday & Mental Health Event
The 9th anniversary event took place at Roses Sports Ground and was attended by many including the Mayor of Gainsborough Cllr Kenneth Woolley. The project was designed to bring together the wider mental health community together, giving them an opportunity to network and connect.
During the event there was a performance by the Stepping Stone Theatre designed to educate and destigmatise mental health and illness – this was done through song, poems and testimonial stories.
Those that attended had the opportunity to network either one to one or in groups with experts from a variety of Gainsborough support agencies in a non-clinical and non-judgemental environment.
Stepping Stone Theatre for Mental Health said: “Thank to the support of everyone involved in the funding process, we found it instrumental in helping us to crystalize our vision of the event. Without the support of Gainsborough Town Council, many issues, such as highlighting mental health, would never see the light of day.”
