The pollarding and felling of trees in the General Cemetery along the boundary with the previous AMP Rose site will commence on 3rd of March and last over a week.
Previously in this area, a Poplar Tree of a similar height and age to the existing trees had been found to be suffering from severe internal rot which impacts the tree’s internal stability. Due to this, it is a possibility and presumed likely these remaining Poplar Trees are also suffering from internal rot.
Furthermore, it has been identified two Sycamore trees are in declining health, with one appearing likely to have sooty bark disease with deadwood and dieback throughout. The other Sycamore has a dead top and deadwood which seems to be extending throughout the tree, while the stem base is reportedly sound, it is leaning towards the road.
Finally there is an Italian Alder that is in very poor health and is continuing to decline which increases the risk of failure.
Due to the above, Gainsborough Town Council has taken the regrettable decision to fell six Lombardi Poplar trees, two Sycamore trees and one Italian Alder on the grounds of public safety.
Pollarding works will also be undertaken on the eleven Lime Trees that also run along the boundary with the old AMP Rose site during this time.
While this essential tree management is underway, please be aware there will be restricted vehicular and pedestrian access in some areas.
